I grew up reading at the movies, It may sound weird in this society; but when the movies are mostly created in another country, subtitles rules!
That early relation between text and image, is what it captured my attention on Ernesto’s paintings. I can not scape anymore the tension that translation brings getting one closer or further from what is named. Just to give you a random example “The Russian House” was announced as “Un amor de otoño“( A fall love) then, you can imagine how the dialogues in the movie will bears to.
Most of the texts involved in Ernesto’s paintings won’t come from the movie from where the image comes from; but from books or thoughts that inspire him. One can not scape that dichotomy, some will stick with the text, or the image… Or some will just stand thinking if the path is inviting us to follow who leads or to stay back and look.
